Still on an adrenaline high from yesterday! Highly Commended in the Norway Spruce category at the annual Competition Day hosted by the amazing Sutton Hall Christmas Trees and @sussex_christmas_barn in East Sussex. What a day, what a showcase! Huge congratulations to @yorkchristmastrees who won the Champion Grower award and will supply the tree outside No.10 Downing Street this season. What an accolade ? Just look at their amazing Nordmann Fir in the second photo. And many, many congratulations to the lovely people at @welfordchristmastreefarm for winning the overall runners-up prize. They will be supplying the trees inside No.10 this season, amazing, well done Welford! So many congratulations to @santatreesliskeard who won the Champion Wreath competition ~ one of their incredible wreaths will adorn No.10’s front door this season. Their winning wreath was absolutely stunning. And congratulations to @cadeby_tree_trust who won the Photo of the Year competition and will supply a tree to The Foreign Office ~ fabulous. It was an amazing day of networking and chatting, tree judging, plantation tours, talks and activities. Thank you @bctga for organising such a great showcase event for our industry. Tomorrow is our annual industry competition day organised by @bctga ~ and we have chosen and cut our two entries! One Norway Spruce and one Nordmann Fir… Growers from all over the country will head to Sutton Hall Christmas Trees in Sussex with trees galore to enter into several different tree categories. As growers we all judge each other’s trees ourselves and the winners and runners-up have the honour of supplying trees and a wreath to the institution of No.10 Downing Street, one of the most recognisable and prestigious doorsteps in the UK for a tree! The winner of the Photo of the Year competition has the opportunity to supply a tree to the Foreign Office. The competition day is a true showcase for our industry and also a great chance to network, tour the host tree farm and share ideas. We’ll keep you updated tomorrow with all the events of the day! We’re back from a fantastic British Christmas Tree Growers Association Summer open day trip to @claytonfoldchristmastreefarm in the Peak District ~ it’s always so interesting to see other tree farms, talk to other growers and share ideas. And the setting in the high peaks was amazing, with its own set of challenges with landscape and weather. The tree plantations looked fantastic, we’ll share some more photos tomorrow. A huge thank you to the team at Clayton Fold and @bctga for a brilliant day ~ as we always say you can’t beat talking trees!

This batch of Norway Spruce were swamped by weeds but our monster Weibang mower ate them up ~ they still may not look pretty but they’re much better than before! In fact the weed coverage may almost have saved them in the recent heatwaves, but now we can water them and give them a bit of attention. Good job George ? How are all your lovely trees looking? After making the thoughtful decision of where to purchase your tree, here on the farm, now you might be starting to think about how to dispose of it once you’re ready to. The wonderful @willen_hospice tree collection scheme is a great place to start for the many postcodes it covers. Simply book your collection online, make a donation and the fabulous Willen Hospice volunteers will collect your tree from your doorstep between 3rd-5th January. All the trees are chipped and returned to the soil which is great. Many other local hospices in your area offer this type of collection scheme too. Have a quick internet search to find your local one. Milton Keynes Council’s green waste collection scheme is good too, as the trees will all be chipped which is great for re-use in the environment. Or alternatively you could pop your tree in your garden for a few weeks or months as bird and insect habitat. Pop some bird feeders on it too, they will love it! Whichever you choose, take a moment to dispose of your tree thoughtfully whenever you’re ready to ?♻️ #TheXmasTreeFarm #FarmGrownTrees

The wonderful @willen_hospice tree collection scheme is a great place to start for the many postcodes it covers. Simply book your collection online, make a donation and the fabulous Willen Hospice volunteers will collect your tree from your doorstep between 3rd-5th January. All the trees are chipped and returned to the soil which is great. Many other local hospices in your area offer this type of collection scheme too. Have a quick internet search to find your local one. Milton Keynes Council’s green waste collection scheme is good too, as the trees will all be chipped which is great for re-use in the environment. Or alternatively you could pop your tree in your garden for a few weeks or months as bird and insect habitat. Pop some bird feeders on it too, they will love it! Whichever you choose, take a moment to dispose of your tree thoughtfully whenever you’re ready to 🌲♻️ #TheXmasTreeFarm #FarmGrownTrees

Your enthusiasm for it was infectious ~ Saturday’s torrential rain meant many of you arrived all at once yesterday, so thank you so much for waiting a little for a parking space and for your trees to be netted after choosing from the plantations ~ you all seemed happy to soak up the atmosphere here on the farm, which we hugely appreciate ? One of our favourite days of the year ❤️ Right since George & Ruby went to our village school many moons ago we’ve hosted a school visit each season to show the pupils around our plantations and give them the chance to choose their very own tree for school. And today we had the pleasure of welcoming not only our village school but two other schools in its federation too, which was triple the fun! We split the group into two with plantation tours and a chance for them to look at and sketch some of our farm machinery. We’re always amazed at the questions from such a young primary age: “What does the sun do to the trees?” “What does the rain do to the trees?” “How do trees grow in the cracks?” “Where does the seed come from?” “Why do birds make their home in a tree?” Just wonderful. At the end parents enjoyed mulled wine whilst listening to all the children singing “Oh Christmas tree” and “We wish you a merry Christmas” ~ honestly adorable ? Highly Commended in the Norway Spruce category at the annual Competition Day hosted by the amazing Sutton Hall Christmas Trees and @sussex_christmas_barn in East Sussex. What a day, what a showcase! Huge congratulations to @yorkchristmastrees who won the Champion Grower award and will supply the tree outside No.10 Downing Street this season. What an accolade ? Just look at their amazing Nordmann Fir in the second photo. And many, many congratulations to the lovely people at @welfordchristmastreefarm for winning the overall runners-up prize. They will be supplying the trees inside No.10 this season, amazing, well done Welford! So many congratulations to @santatreesliskeard who won the Champion Wreath competition ~ one of their incredible wreaths will adorn No.10’s front door this season. Their winning wreath was absolutely stunning. And congratulations to @cadeby_tree_trust who won the Photo of the Year competition and will supply a tree to The Foreign Office ~ fabulous. One Norway Spruce and one Nordmann Fir… Growers from all over the country will head to Sutton Hall Christmas Trees in Sussex with trees galore to enter into several different tree categories. As growers we all judge each other’s trees ourselves and the winners and runners-up have the honour of supplying trees and a wreath to the institution of No.10 Downing Street, one of the most recognisable and prestigious doorsteps in the UK for a tree! The winner of the Photo of the Year competition has the opportunity to supply a tree to the Foreign Office. The competition day is a true showcase for our industry and also a great chance to network, tour the host tree farm and share ideas. We’ll keep you updated tomorrow with all the events of the day! We’re back from a fantastic British Christmas Tree Growers Association Summer open day trip to @claytonfoldchristmastreefarm in the Peak District ~ it’s always so interesting to see other tree farms, talk to other growers and share ideas. And the setting in the high peaks was amazing, with its own set of challenges with landscape and weather. The tree plantations looked fantastic, we’ll share some more photos tomorrow. A huge thank you to the team at Clayton Fold and @bctga for a brilliant day ~ as we always say you can’t beat talking trees!

This is definitely what you call extreme mowing ? This batch of Norway Spruce were swamped by weeds but our monster Weibang mower ate them up ~ they still may not look pretty but they’re much better than before! In fact the weed coverage may almost have saved them in the recent heatwaves, but now we can water them and give them a bit of attention. Good job George ? Cold beer definitely needed ? #TheXmasTreeFarm #Farm365 #JulyOnTheFarm

How are all your lovely trees looking? After making the thoughtful decision of where to purchase your tree, here on the farm, now you might be starting to think about how to dispose of it once you’re ready to. The wonderful @willen_hospice tree collection scheme is a great place to start for the many postcodes it covers. Simply book your collection online, make a donation and the fabulous Willen Hospice volunteers will collect your tree from your doorstep between 3rd-5th January. All the trees are chipped and returned to the soil which is great. Many other local hospices in your area offer this type of collection scheme too. Have a quick internet search to find your local one. Milton Keynes Council’s green waste collection scheme is good too, as the trees will all be chipped which is great for re-use in the environment. Or alternatively you could pop your tree in your garden for a few weeks or months as bird and insect habitat. Pop some bird feeders on it too, they will love it! Whichever you choose, take a moment to dispose of your tree thoughtfully whenever you’re ready to ?♻️ #TheXmasTreeFarm #FarmGrownTrees

One of our favourite days of the year ❤️ Right since George & Ruby went to our village school many moons ago we’ve hosted a school visit each season to show the pupils around our plantations and give them the chance to choose their very own tree for school. And today we had the pleasure of welcoming not only our village school but two other schools in its federation too, which was triple the fun! We split the group into two with plantation tours and a chance for them to look at and sketch some of our farm machinery. We’re always amazed at the questions from such a young primary age: “What does the sun do to the trees?” “What does the rain do to the trees?” “How do trees grow in the cracks?” “Where does the seed come from?” “Why do birds make their home in a tree?” Just wonderful. At the end parents enjoyed mulled wine whilst listening to all the children singing “Oh Christmas tree” and “We wish you a merry Christmas” ~ honestly adorable ?
